The big news is that reigning MVP quarterback Tom Brady is out for the rest of the season due to an injury during yesterday’s game. Already I have received quite a bit of e-mail asking me my thoughts.
For those of you who do not know, I am not a huge football fan at all. However, during my run for Congress last year, I briefly made headlines by criticizing Brady’s off-the-field antics. While I honestly thought my comments would go completely unnoticed, it actually got me more coverage than anything else I ever did. Go figure.
I called Tom Brady immoral. I said the man should be ashamed of himself. As you may recall, these comments were made when all New England was a buzz about the news of Tom’s ex-girlfriend’s pregnancy. The announcement of the pregnancy came while Brady was out and about gallivanting with his latest supermodel girlfriend. Commentators were high-fiving each other as they cheered the man’s ability to date and “score” with beautiful women. There was no concern shown for a single-mother raising a child without a full-time father. Someone had to say something, so I did.
“Many millions of small, adoring fans look up to Brady only to find him chasing models, fathering children out of wedlock, and unashamedly engaging in an immoral lifestyle.”
“This is the man we look up to, admire, and spend money to purchase tickets to see . . . What kind of world is this if Tom Brady is not absolutely ashamed of himself? He, a grown man, is showing the maturity of a hormone-driven teenager. Tom Brady apparently has no regard for traditional virtue or Biblical morality.”
“What is manly or praise-worthy of a man hopping from supermodel to supermodel and forcing a woman to raise her child without a loving present, father?”
Unfortunately, the above quotes are the only remaining words that still exist from my original blog post. I wish I had kept it, but apparently I did not. I did write a follow-up article concerning this that I never did publish. If I find this article, I will post it on this blog.
So here is my official statement concerning Tom Brady’s recent injury:
I sincerely feel sorry that Tom Brady received a serious injury during a recent game. I will pray for a quick recovery and return to the field. In the meantime, I hope Mr. Brady will consider spending some extra-time with his child and the mother of his child.
