Excuse me for the following rant…
Ok, let me give you my two cents on this whole Obama/Palin/lip stick issue. Folks, get over it! Not every reference to lip stick is a reference to Sarah Palin. This phrase about putting lip stick on a pig is a cliche that has been used over and over again by many different people. Was it the best choice of words, probably not. But was does it deserve all of this attention, absolutely not.
It is not often that I find myself defending Barack Obama, but this is just ridiculous. This is what I hate about politics – every word, phrase and comment is scrutinized and parsed to an unreasonable degree. Think about it from your perspective. How much fodder could you supply reporters with if each of the words you have uttered today were dissected and examined by thousands of reporters, bloggers and pundits. These candidates speak for a living – they find themselves giving speech after speech after speech. Quite frankly, it is a surprise they even know where they are at half the time. When this is your living, gaffes are going to happen. Can’t we just understand this and move on with our lives? Are there not any more important issues that could be discussed?

I would agree with you except for the fact that once he said it and the crowd erupted in such laugher…he knew then, that they had made a connection to Sarah and right there he knew it was a mistake. He should have made the joke that they always make about don’t send me emails. It was a slip…he didn’t mean it but it came out from the back of his head…Sarah is in there.
